About Cooper Neighborhood CERT
Neighborhoods need to organize and be ready to help themselves. Mountain View's Fire Department, for example, has only 19 Firefighters on duty at any one time. Only 2 live in town and many drive 90 minutes or more to be here. Firefighting usually scales as nearby city fire departments can come assist with a big fire. But during a major disaster impacting the bay area, there will be no reinforcements for hours or days. Those on duty may need our help in determining what is happening in our neighborhoods and manage limited emergency resources.
A subset of the city-wide program, Cooper Neighborhood CERT (CPR-CERT) covers the neighborhoods between Grant Road and Stevens Creek, and Sleeper to Levin Ave/April Lane, including side streets, per the map below.
During a major disaster, Internet, telephone and cellular networks may be overloaded or impaired and direct contact with overwhelmed emergency personnel may not be possible. In preparation for this, your neighborhood CPR-CERT volunteers have two-way FRS radios as well as a Command Post in Cooper Park where neighborhood emergency response needs can be collected and transmitted to Mountain View's Emergency Operations Center.
We need you! We could use more trained, block volunteers! To learn more about CPR-CERT, please sign up to get newsletters or more! The CERT program is free for all Mountain View citizens. Read more at mountainview.gov
